2018 Camper Showcase

July 21 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Our campers will spend a week attending empowering workshops and work together with their bands to each write an original song. The camper showcase is their time to take the stage, make some noise, and have their voices AMPLIFIED!

The youth of Columbia will take the stage for the sixth consecutive year on July 21st during our annual Girls Rock Columbia Camper Showcase. During the week of camp, girls and trans*youth ages 8-17 attend instrument instruction with local musicians who volunteer their time and talents to share their love of music with the next generation of rockers. Campers are grouped into bands of similar ages and collaborate to write an original song in only five days! Girls Rock Columbia believes that it is our duty to amplify voices that are often told to remain silent, so we’ve made it our mission to help girls and trans and gender nonconforming youth harness the confidence and power that is already within them to speak their truths and share their lived experiences.

In addition to writing and performing an original song, campers will participate in empowering workshops including consent and self-defense through Krav Maga, podcasting, home recording, yoga, stand-up comedy, using art for advocacy, neurodiversity awareness, accessibility, self-care, improv activities, and D.I.Y screen printing their very own band shirt designs.

Girls Rock Columbia held our first camp in 2013 with only 17 campers. This year, we will be hosting 66 campers. Thanks to the generous support of our community, over 65% of our campers are able to receive full or partial tuition assistance making camp accessible to more youth every year. This year, we are excited to announce that our Teen Leaders will be taking on many jobs including emceeing the showcase. You won’t want to miss this show!
